Hiya. I came across your blog while looking through random stats for my old blog. I just wanted to say I love all of your posts! Really beautiful. I really love your style.
I would like to work on some simple comics but I’m having a hard time getting started. Didn’t go to school for it, just been sketching since I was a wee baby and not in a particularly realistic style.
Hiya, Suzy! Thanks for your nice comments!
It’s awesome that you want to draw comics– what kind of comics are you interested in making? I’m no expert, but if you’re having a hard time starting, I would suggest trying a really small project first, like a 4-panel strip, or a page– something light that you don’t have to invest your blood and sweat into, just so you can get something down and started.
Someone to look at might be Tom Hart. He came to my school to lecture on teaching comics and seems like a knowledgeable and pretty swell guy.
I’d love to look at your work! (I tried to click on your blog, but I wasn’t allowed).
Thanks for the advice! I’m kind of in between blogs right now (closed down my old one, just a writing blog) and trying to start up a new one at http://wildsleep.wordpress.com but I’m having trouble getting inspired. Been a bit busy. I’m mostly a writer that used to be a constant sketcher but it’s only random these days. I made a few comics while I was working but I always get overwhelmed when I sit down and try to take it seriously! They are pretty embarrassing, though, hehe.
I’m not sure what I’d like to do, yet. I wanted to start with some sketches for a book I plan on delving into soon. So more on the serious side, I guess. Just see where my skills take me but of course I need to learn a bit more in general about it all.
Oh, mo! It looks beautiful. I remember reading this in colour, but am partial to the way you use greys. Keep up the good work, post more comics.
